Jeon Jungkook (Korean: 전정국) was born on September 1, 1997 in Busan, South Korea. He has one older brother. Jungkuk attended Baekyang Elementary and Middle School in Busan. He transferred to Singu Middle School in Seoul when he became a trainee. Jungkook had dreamt of becoming a badminton player. However, after seeing G-Dragon perform “Heartbreaker” on TV, it influenced him to become a singer.

Jungkook auditioned for the South Korean talent show “Superstar K3” in 2011. Jungkook performed 2AM’s “This Song” and while he managed to get seven casting offers from entertainment agencies and major music labels, he did not make it onto the “Superstar K3.” He ultimately decided to become a trainee with Big Hit Entertainment. When asked why he chose Big Hit, Jungkook replied, “I ended up (at Big Hit) because Rap Monster was so cool.”.

In 2012, Jungkook went to Los Angeles to receive dance training from Movement Lifestyle in preparation for his debut. In June 2012, Jungkook appeared in Jo Kwon’s “I’m Da One” music video. Predebut, he was also a backup dancer for Glam.

In 2017, Jungkook graduated from Seoul’s School of Performing Arts. Jungkook did not take the CSATs, Korea’s nationwide university entrance exam, and enrolled at Global Cyber University along with BTS members RM, J-Hope, Suga, V, and Jimin.

A 2019 survey by Gallup Korea ranked Jungkook as the third most-loved celebrity of the year in South Korea. Jungkook’s popularity is not limited to South Korea. He also ranks high on the list in China as well as on social media. In October 2018, Jungkook broke the record for most real-time viewers with his solo V Live broadcast with more than 3.7 million viewers worldwide. In 2018, a video of Jungkook singing in the studio became the most retweeted tweet in South Korea for the year. Jungkook was the most-searched male K-pop artist on Google in 2019. His popularity has earned him the nickname “Sold Out King” because items he is seen using often sell out very quickly.
